Most online comic projects disappear long before that. Algorithms shift, audiences move, creators burn out, and trends move faster than stories can settle. Yet Sskait remains, not frozen in nostalgia but still evolving with the same voice that first drew readers in.<\/p>\n
For AJ, however, longevity raises a more difficult question than relevance.<\/p>\n
Can Sskait survive beyond the version of himself who first created it?<\/p>\n
The answer, it seems, has been forming for years.<\/p>\n
The comic artist says the shift from \u201ccontent page\u201d to something heavier, something closer to legacy, began when Sskait started telling longer stories.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I started making long series,\u201d AJ says, \u201cI think that was the moment it felt like I\u2019m leaving a legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n
He laughs while saying it, almost uncomfortable with the weight of the word itself.<\/p>\n
\u201cLegacy is such a term na parang ang bigat-bigat na responsibility,\u201d AJ admits.<\/p>\n
But the thought has stayed with him.<\/p>\n
For someone whose comics often begin with spontaneous jokes and intrusive thoughts, AJ speaks about permanence with surprising clarity. The challenge is no longer simply creating the next strip or finishing the next series. It is imagining what remains afterward.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy biggest challenge talaga sa Sskait,\u201d AJ says, \u201cis something na if nawala na ako sa mundong ito, I still would want it to continue and keep giving positive impact sa mga readers.\u201d<\/p>\n
That desire feels especially significant considering how much the digital world has changed since Sskait first appeared.<\/p>\n
The comic page began before algorithms fully reshaped how Filipino creators distribute and package their work online. Entire platforms have changed their priorities since then, rewarding different formats and punishing others almost overnight.<\/p>\n
Yet AJ describes Sskait\u2019s evolution less as reinvention and more as adaptation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just doing what I was doing before,\u201d AJ says.<\/p>\n

The stories remain familiar. The humor remains recognizably his. What changed, according to AJ, is mostly the way the work moves across platforms.<\/p>\n
\u201cSay noon, okay lang maglagay ng links sa caption,\u201d he explains. \u201cNgayon, hindi na magandang practice kasi the algorithm doesn\u2019t favor it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Different platforms also demanded different presentations.<\/p>\n
\u201cSa Facebook, I post full comic,\u201d AJ says. \u201cSa Instagram and TikTok, I had to make it per frame.\u201d<\/p>\n
The adjustment may sound technical, but it reflects something important about Sskait\u2019s endurance. While platforms continue rewriting their rules, AJ has largely refused to abandon the core of the work itself.<\/p>\n
The container changes. The comic does not.<\/p>\n
That consistency becomes more apparent when AJ talks about newer comic creators entering the space.<\/p>\n
Rather than seeing emerging pages as competition, he describes them with genuine excitement.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhenever I see new comic pages online, I feel happy,\u201d AJ says.<\/p>\n
The reason is simple.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are already a niche community,\u201d he says, laughing. \u201cAnd seeing other people reach success sa comics, it feels nice na, yes, buhay pa ang artform namin.\u201d<\/p>\n
His response feels less territorial than communal.<\/p>\n
Support, AJ believes, benefits the entire industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cKaya support talaga,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
Asked what Sskait possesses that newer pages cannot replicate overnight, AJ hesitates.<\/p>\n
Unlike creators eager to define competitive advantages or market positioning, AJ avoids grand declarations.<\/p>\n
\u201cDi ko din sure,\u201d he says honestly.<\/p>\n
\u201cKasi iba iba ang humor ng mga artists and storytellers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Or perhaps the answer lies in the community that formed around the page.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe the community na nabuo through Sskait?\u201d AJ reflects. \u201cDi ko rin sure exactly.\u201d<\/p>\n
What he does sound certain about is the value of more creators entering the field.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe more comic pages, the better,\u201d AJ says. \u201cMore collaborations can happen and it is good for the industry itself.\u201d<\/p>\n
That perspective aligns closely with how AJ imagines Sskait\u2019s future.<\/p>\n
Many creator-driven platforms remain inseparable from the personalities behind them. Once the creator steps away, the work often disappears too.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want it to be able to fuel itself and live on its own.\u201d<\/p>\n
The vision is surprisingly simple.<\/p>\n
\u201cSskait without me,\u201d AJ says with a laugh, \u201crunning on its own.\u201d<\/p>\n
But beneath the humor sits a serious aspiration.<\/p>\n
He imagines the same humor, the same comics, and readers still gathering around them years later.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaraming readers na magbabasa pa rin,\u201d AJ says. \u201cAnd nagiging medium of conversation ng mga tao.\u201d<\/p>\n
The idea clearly appeals to him.<\/p>\n
\u201cWould be nice,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n
If AJ could redesign the broader world of Filipino webcomics and digital art, his first answer arrives predictably wrapped in comedy.<\/p>\n
\u201cKung parang Genie wish ko lang? Sana convertible to dollars ung reactions sa comics.\u201d he jokes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know it wouldn\u2019t make business sense,\u201d AJ says. \u201cBut\u2026 would be nice right?\u201d<\/p>\n
Behind the joke, however, sits a more serious concern about recognition.<\/p>\n
\u201cSana dumami ang mga awarding bodies for humor,\u201d AJ says.<\/p>\n
The comment reflects something often overlooked in conversations about comics and digital art. Humor is frequently treated as effortless, casual, or secondary to more dramatic forms of storytelling, even when it demands immense craft.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt takes a lot of effort and skill to do humor comics,\u201d AJ says.<\/p>\n
And for AJ, humor carries genuine value beyond entertainment.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know humor helps a lot of people in different ways.\u201d<\/p>\n
That belief may explain why Sskait continues to resonate nearly a decade later.<\/p>\n
